Why Meditation is not Just Meditation

I was at a friends house the other day and the news was on. So much drama. It's sad. I get upset thinking about all the nasty thoughts they put into people's heads. All the fear. All the hate.

Then I thought about this thing I read once about the world not knowing how much we all benefit from monks praying for love everyday. Their meditation sends much needed love to us all.

One of the problems people have with meditation is that it feels pointless. It feels like a lot of time and effort just to sit and do nothing. And it's hard to understand how that can be beneficial to us. A few things here:

1) Meditation is actually best without much effort. You simply sit, relax, let go.

2) This "simple" process is wildly beneficial to ourselves (my favorite book on this is Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn)

3) (My favorite part) This "simple" process is wildly beneficial to the whole world

It makes a difference. It hits some hearts along the way and brings a smile or a little miracle. A change in thought. Forgiveness.

Meditation is not just meditation. It's so much more. It's sending love to yourself and to the world. It's plugging in. It's showing up. It's listening. It's being heard. It's a gift to yourself and a gift to the world.
