Looking Down in Italy (Italian Floors)
This might sound funny, but I totally didn't expect to be influenced by the design and history in Italy. Maybe because the first time I visited, it didn't really influence me at all... and I think I was hoping it would! Travel + our expectations are interesting in that way.
On this trip I'm really influenced by all of the old and new existing together. The Italians are so good at this. I'm picking up all these details and asking myself what makes them work aesthetically?
For example, the floors. I've yet to see a bad floor. I'm especially drawn to the tile here. Whether old or new, rustic or modern, I'm finding clean, geometric lines and a consistent color palette.
There is something I trust and connect with about a culture that cares so much about aesthetics. It's true what they say, taste and style run deep in the Italian blood.
So yah, these gorgeous floors are going to make it even harder to deal with the beige carpet I've got going on back home (we rent).
